A Gift: Tapping Into More Hope and Joy!

12/31/2011 2:00 pm
12/31/2011 4:30 pm
US/Central

We are more powerful when we feel healthy, strong, balanced, connected with nature and each other. Toward that end, we invite you to join us in watching an inspirational film called "The Tapping Solution". The film demonstrates how Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) help to powerfully release emotional blocks that stand in the way of health, happiness, and abundance.

After watching the 90-minute film, we will spend a few minutes getting to know each other (if the weather is nice we may opt for a 20-minute walk on the greenbelt trail just outside). We will also discuss the film, demonstrate the technique, and then tap together about our hopes and dreams in the year ahead. We want you to leave feeling that you had received a great gift, one that will keep on giving!

The event is FREE! Be sure to let us know if you will be attending in order to receive apartment # and directions.

Location: Private residence at the Gables at the Terrace apartments, 2301 South Mopac. Google map at http://g.co/maps/6an4x

RSVP at http://www.greengirls.net/contact

NOTE: There is a limit of 10 people who can attend. Attendees must be an Austin GreenGirls member, or accompany a member. This will be the first in a series of film viewings of The Tapping Solution that will be scheduled in 2012. So if you miss this event, stay tuned for additional viewing dates that will be announced. We will also schedule practice group sessions to help you learn to use the technique more effectively.

The Tapping Solution is a breakthrough documentary exploring meridian tapping, a healing tool based on the body's subtle energy systems and meridians. You can watch the trailer at http://www.thetappingsolution.com/watch-the-trailer.php

More on the technique and how it works at http://www.thetappingsolution.com/how-to-tap.php

We look forward to seeing you!

Roberta Speer is a Holistic Counselor who specializes in preventing and dealing with toxicity, the number one cause of serious illness. Her talk includes natural ways to eliminate accumulated toxins that put us at risk for disease, and how to minimize as much as possible, further intoxication.

Good health and well-being depend on PREVENTION. We ALL face the reality of living in a toxic world that is placing ever-increasing strains on our bodies' ability to cope and maintain balance. The number of American adults and children with chronic pain and illness is staggering -- and keeps climbing. The culprit is TOXICITY. As Roberta says, "there is no place to run, no place to hide". We must take action to face and successfully deal with the toxicity challenge. She will happily answer questions at the end of her talk.

Holly Weyant will be hosting our next GreenGirls.net Book Club meeting and potluck. She has selected the great environmental classic "Silent Spring" by Rachel L. Carson as our book to be discussed.

In 1960, a woman noticed the birds had stopped singing and their population had severely decreased in her neighborhood. She summoned a friend, biologist/writer Rachel Carson, to investigate this wildlife mystery. Subsequently, in 1962, Rachel's discoveries and efforts were brought to the forefront in her book, Silent Spring, which revealed the atrocities of pesticide poisoning. The over-spraying of DDT, dieldrin and other pest killers was poisoning the entire world of living things, humanity included. Rachel's work not only left chemical companies casting about trying to discredit her findings, but, most importantly, prompted an enormous environmental movement which continues today. --Review from The WomanSource Catalog & Review: Tools for Connecting the Community for Women

Ellen Hansen will be hosting our first GreenGirls.net Book Club meeting, which will include a potluck. She has selected "Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature" by Janine M. Benyus as our first book to discuss.

What: Book Club Meeting & Potluck
When: Sunday, March 14, 11:30am-2:00pm
Location: Mosaic Apartments, 4600 Mueller Blvd, Austin, TX 78723

We will spend the first part of the meeting eating and socializing (11:30-1:00). We will discuss the book from 1:00-2:00.

If you plan to attend this event, be sure to RSVP since we will limit participation to 10 women (the unit # will be provided for those who RSVP).

As of Feb 2, six (6) women have RSVPd to attend our book club meeting and potluck. We have 3 presenters so far, for chapters 2, 3 and 4. If you want to present a particular chapter, just ask.

Since this book lends itself to dividing up contents by chapter (there are 8 chapters covering specific areas), we encourage participants to consider selecting a chapter to focus on to present to the group. It is not necessary that every chapter be "spoken for"; it just helps to ensure that all attendees will get a taste of what each chapter is about, regardless of whether we all had time to read the whole book.

Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature - by Janine M. Benyus
. Chapter 1 - Echoing Nature - Why Biomimicry Now? [Ellen Hansen will present]
. Chapter 2 - How Will We Feed Ourselves? - Farming to Fit the Land: Growing Food Like a Prairie - [Renee Pinchero will present]
. Chapter 3 - How Will We Harness Energy? - Light into Life: Gathering Energy Like a Leaf - [Joni Gilton will present]
. Chapter 4 - How Will We Make Things? - Fitting Form to Function: Weaving Fibers Like a Spider - [Holly Weyant will present]
. Chapter 5 - How Will We Heal Ourselves? - Experts in Our Midst: Finding Cures Like a Chimp
. Chapter 6 - How Will We Store What We Learn? - Dances with Molecules: Computing Like a Cell
. Chapter 7 - How Will We Conduct Business? - Closing the Loops in Commerce: Running a Business Like a Redwood Forest
. Chapter 8 - Where Will We Go From Here? - May Wonders Never Cease: Toward a Biomimetic Future

Holiday Potluck Brunch Party

12/13/2009 11:30 am
12/13/2009 11:30 am
US/Central

It's time again for GreenGirls' annual Holiday Potluck Brunch Party. We hope you can join us. If you're there, it will be that much more fun!

This annual gathering is a great way to see old friends, make new ones, share good food and interesting conversation. If you enjoy meeting other women who are passionate about protecting the environment, please consider yourself invited. You do not need to have attended a prior GreenGirls.net event to come.

What: GreenGirls' Annual Holiday Potluck Brunch Party

When: Sunday, Dec 13, 11am to ~3pm [WHITE ELEPHANT EXCHANGE at 1pm]

Where: Private residence - 1115 Kinney Ave, 78704 (4-story townhouse) - We will email you the Unit # when you RSVP.

What to bring:
. Holiday spirit
. One dish to share (beverages will be covered).
. One GREEN holiday tip to share with everyone (Examples: Gift giving ideas such as donations to sustainable projects OR green holiday decorating tips OR any other tips you want to share!)
. OPTIONAL: A White Elephant Gift. (For those of you needing a refresher, see below.)

RSVP at http://www.greengirls.net/contact

A White Elephant Gift Exchange goes like this:

You bring any old (wrapped but unlabeled) item you have laying around the house, or a very inexpensive/humorous trinket (extra points if it's green or environmentally friendly). We number it at the door. At 1pm we draw numbers and she who has #1 unwraps the first gift and shows it to everyone. Each successive participant, in the order determined from the drawing, can either 1) "steal" an already opened gift (if there's one they really like) or 2) be adventurous and go for a wrapped gift from the pile. If the participant chooses to steal, the person whose gift is stolen now repeats their turn and either 1) steals another person's gift (they cannot immediately steal back the gift that was just stolen from them) or 2) unwraps a new gift.

Since items can be stolen, the item in your possession is not yours until the gift is "safe" -- or stolen twice. This helps the process go more smoothly (avoiding, for example, the hypothetical scenario of the same gift being stolen by every successive participant) and limits the disadvantage of being among the first to choose gifts. The gal who picked first also has the option of picking any "safe" gift or keeping the gift already in hand.

*If the weather is nice, we will go up to the roof at 1pm for the gift exchange part of the party.

RSVP at http://www.greengirls.net/contact

We hope to see you there!
