Adopt-a-Street Cleanup Photos
Below are some photos to give you a better idea of our Adopt-a-Street Cleanup location. We hope this will entice you to join us!

Above: GreenGirl volunteers gather at the newly installed Keep Austin Beautiful sign after cleaning up our adopted segment of Lamar Boulevard. As part of our kickoff event in October 2008, we returned to Pease Park for our potluck party.

Above: Here is a map indicating exactly where we will meet and the section of Lamar Boulevard we have adopted. (Scroll down for a Google map link.)

Above: Look for this sign, which marks the spot of the south side of Pease Park. Click here for a Google map.

Above: Here is where we gather to check in volunteers, show them a map of our area to be cleaned up, and hand out cleanup gear. If you would like to help with this event, please let us know. Details will be provided via GreenGirls.net News.

Above: Pease Park is a great place to bring kids of all ages. Hint: If you are a mother with children and would love to meet GreenGirls but need to watch your kids, consider coming and helping out, or just hanging out during any of our cleanup events.

Above: The GreenGirls Adopt-a-Street Cleanup Planning Committee poses for a photo on location during our September 2008 breakfast meeting. From left to right: Kathryn Brimacombe, Ellen Hansen, Jan Duffin, Elizabeth Greenwood, Joni Gilton, Autumn Mesanko, and Tejashri Kyle.

Above: A water fountain and faucet is located next to the picnic tables.

Above: Bathroom facilities are located just a few steps away from the picnic and playground areas.

Above: A few feet away from the picnic tables, looking eastward, is a path to a footbridge over Shoal Creek. On the other side of the bridge is Lamar Boulevard.

Above: This is what we see when we exit the Shoal Creek footbridge from Pease Park onto Lamar Blvd. Our adopted area begins just north of here. You can see the sign across the street marking the 1700 block where Shoal Creek runs into Lamar Blvd. Most of us may want to stay on this side of the street (turn left), work our way northward, and cross at 24th Street (or just turn around and walk through Pease Park grounds). Others may prefer to begin cleanup on the east side of the street, just below the Shoal Creek street sign. These folks would turn right and cross Lamar at the median (recommended for safety reasons), and begin working northward, crossing at 24th Street.

Above: A few volunteers pick up trash along the sidewalk.

Above: We are looking at the "T" intersection where Martin Luther King (MLK) Blvd runs into Lamar Blvd. If you look closely, you can see a Cap Metro bus stop on both sides of Lamar.

Above: This is a great place to be on a Saturday morning. We will notice the change of seasons along the park during our quarterly cleanups.

Above: We are getting closer to 24th Street.

Above: Picking up trash and conversing along the way -- a great way to care for the community and get connected with others who care.

Above: This is what we see when we turn around and face south.

Above: This is the intersection of Lamar and 24th Street. We will cross here and head southward. Notice the #338 Cap Metro bus sign in the foreground.
